Concrete construction "offsets around one half" of carbonate emissions from cement industry says IPCC
According to the latest climate report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), about half of the carbonate emitted in cement production is reabsorbed by the material when used in construction and infrastructure.

"Direct co2 emissions from carbonates in cement production account for about 4% of total fossil CO2 emissions," says the full IPCC Sixth Assessment Report.

However, carbonates account for only 40-60 per cent of total emissions from cement production, so carbonisation will reabsorb about a quarter of emissions.
